the route

Talking about traveling all around the world and trying to put as many pins possible on the world atlas, this requires a list of countries that we plan to visit and spend some quality time. Our plan is divided into three sections. The first leg of the journey includes the African continent. The next section refers to Asia and the third includes Oceania and Latin America.

On April 29th, we will begin from Chalkida and will move north and west to Ancona. Crossing the Mediterranean coasts of Italy and France, we will arrive in Spain and particularly in Barcelona. Through Gibraltar, we will move south to Morocco. Passing along the west coast of Western Sahara and Mauritania, we will move south to Senegal and from there to Mali, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, Nigeria and Cameroon. Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola are the next stops (depended on the visas issues) before entering to Namibia and from there to South Africa and popular Cape Town. Climbing the northeast side of the Black Continent, we will then go to Botswana, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique and Malawi. Our dreams will merely come true when we will visit the National Parks of Tanzania, Kenya & Rwanda before ending up in Egypt through Soudan, Burundi and Uganda.

The planned route

The arrival in Alexandria will mean the end of the first leg and the beginning of the second. By ferry from Alexandria to Venice, we will make a big circle and then move east with a small stop in Greece (if existing). Through Turkey, we plan to go round the Caspian Sea and passing from Georgia to South Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan before crossing Persia. Another dream will come true by visiting Iran, the most hospitable country of the world. From there we expect to get in Pakistan before reaching India. Through Nepal, we will pass on the southern border of China to reach Bangladesh, Bhutan, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Moving north to Vladivostok and going all around China, we will try to get the best fare to cross the Pacific with direction to Alaska.
Moving south, we aspire to walk in the footsteps of GoDimitris and make the tour of South American continent before taking the boat back from Argentina to Spain and from there back to Greece (if existing).

Of course, the initial planning may be changed for any reason as the continuous-changing political situation in some parts of the world, the recent global recession, the weather (remember the Japan earthquake and tsunami) and any other unexpected facts may affect our tour, our dreams and our lives in general.

The original planning included the passage to Africa from East (Turkey-Syria-Jordan-Egypt) and the reverse direction (Morocco - Spain - Latin America etc.). However, the recent violent and even fatal revolutions in the Mediterranean Muslim countries (Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Syria, Yemen, etc.) since the beginning of 2011 forced us to modify our original plans.

The catalyst of our tour is the available resources. By spending approximately 60-70 Euros per day, we expect to run out of money after one year and a half.
Since our departure, the rent of our house will be the only income into our bank accounts and will finance the further progress of the Pin Project.

Sending reports and articles in several travel publications and online travel portals is something of interest for two main reasons. The obvious is to ensure a small but stable funding regardless of the amount (which is invaluable for such trips). The second and most fundamental is the feeling of sharing your adventures with other people who travel with you and at the end you never walk alone.

As C.P. Cavafy says, “Hope the voyage is a long one, full of adventure, full of discovery. Any delay, modification or last-minute change will not affect us in a negative way as we feel that something exciting is going to happen in our lives.

Our position will be recorded in real time and this will make easier our tour monitoring by anyone that has an adsl internet connection.
